CLA Game Fair Show- Broadlands, Romsey 28th-Sunday 30th July 2006
This was our second year attendance at this three-day event within the grounds of Broadlands near Romsey . Within the enclosure of protective netting around the goal we certainly had a wonderful view of the stunning house and river that ran alongside. And our 5meter ground mounted inflatable ball was an un-missable point as hundreds of visitors poured in every day. This year we also provided a netted driving bay, which enabled players to see the flight path of the ball, together with a mini-version goal and SoftBall version of the ball, aimed specifically at the younger player. The advertisement in the July edition of the CLA magazine again proved to be advantageous encouraging landowners and farmers to visit our demonstration, which has subsequently led to a whole host of potential enquiries. During the 3 days many hundreds of people enjoyed the events provided by GolfCross.

July 2006 - Tahoe Celebrity Golf, California USA

GolfCross were invited to provide a 6-day demonstration at the 17th annual American Century Championship at Lake Tahoe California in July 2006. With a purse of $500,000 and network television exposure, it’s the most prestigious and richest celebrity tournament in golf. The organisers were very excited to have GolfCross put on such a unique experience for the players, celebrities and general public throughout the tournament. For more information on this exciting event go to www.tahoecelebritygolf.com

More than 78 of the biggest sports and entertainment stars attend and played in extremely hot temperatures. Outside of the many current top athletes that played some celebrities also competed included;
Donald Trump – Businessman Dan Quayle – Former U.S. Vice President
Michael Jordan – NBA Basketball Legend Michael Bolton – Musician
Pete Sampras – Retired Tennis Legend Don Cheadle – Oscar Nominated Actor
This was a superb event for GolfCross to attend and we enjoyed meeting all the players and being able to put on a great display and fun day for everyone who attended the tournament.

Alex King Golf Day - Burhill Golf Club, Surrey - 24 th April 2006

This was one day we were really looking forward too. GolfCross asked to attend a testimonial golf event for another great British sportsman, Alex King the superb Wasps rugby union player.

Along with this we were very excited about a few other things that were happening on this day; a third visit to a GolfCross event from the legendary Wasps and England Player Lawrence Dallaglio, a visit by ‘the golf nurse’ from the magazine Golf Punk and finally the 1 st ‘official erection’ of our new 5 metre GolfCross blimp; just how excited were we!!!

A calm day allowed us to set up our stand and blimp on the 18 th tee, a challenging 424 yards par 4. With our new enormous inflatable ‘oval golf ball’ by our side, it was a certainty that no-one would miss us today.

The ‘Golf Nurse’ with her ‘merry band’ was the 1 st to arrive of our 3 high points for the day. What a ‘mad lady’ she is, but what fun we had with her on the tee, which certainly caused much amusement to her team mates, as you can see!!!

Next to arrive was Lawrence Dallaglio heading up group 12. This was his third event and attempt to win the longest drive. Last time he did beat the longest drive but unfortunately he was just in the semi-rough, which wasn’t allowed. Hey, but luck was with him at this event; due to the fairway being so tight we included the semi-rough for all players on this occasion. Will it be 3 rd time lucky?! - NO, sorry Lawrence, you really will have to try harder next time.

Finally trailing right at the back was the man himself. Alex King tried his hand at beating the longest drive but I think the day was just so overwhelming for him, after 4 attempts he just couldn’t quite reach it; so what’s 50 yards between friends anyway!!!

In summary another superb and successful day enjoyed by all participants.

Celtic Manor Golf Resort – Starlight Foundation Charity, 20th September 05

This stunning resort just outside Newport, South Wales has been the latest venue of a GolfCross Longest Drive Competition. 14 teams started with a ‘rocket’ start rather than the conventional ‘shotgun’ to begin 18 holes of hilly terrain. Upon reaching the 16th Tee players were met by views of an oval golf ball. With all players choosing to support the Starlight Foundation and hit the ball and try to achieve the longest drive. Many were astounded by the length of drive achieved, of which the final length was 272 yards. A good day was had by all, with proceeds going to a very worthwhile charity.

La Grande Mare Golf Resort Guernsey - Wooden Spoon Charity, 9th September 05

What a great event this was, 200 players and a 450 person evening dinner in the wonderful surroundings of Guernsey, what more could any golfer ask for! By far the biggest event we have been involved with, a superb day of golf, which we thought was impossible to beat for entertainment, until the evening dinner! The most outstanding and humorous host followed by great speeches and an excellent comedian then topped off with a wonderful auction raising loads of cash for the Wooden Spoon charity. This was a day that will stay in the memory for many years.

O2 Scrum in the Park - Regents Park London, 14th August 2005

Bonuses to all GolfCross staff for their extreme efforts on this day! More than 1500 people hit a ball that day, non-stop from 10 til 6. The queue at the GolfCross activity was the longest of any event at the show, sometimes reaching over 30 metres long. O2 was a fantastic sponsor of this event and we gave away over 300 O2 logo’d GolfCross balls as ‘Goal-Out’ prizes.

Middlesex 7’s - Twickenham, 13th August 2005

What a day this was!! Rugby supporters on ‘a high’ suddenly coming across an oval golf ball!! Had those 10 Guinness’s really made their eyes go that strange?! No, it was us with our GolfCross ball. After we persuaded them it was true, wow, what a lot of fun we had!

CLA Game Fair Show - Belvoir Castle, 21st - 24th July 2005

Our attendance at this three-day event within the grounds of Belvoir Castle proved to be a great success. Our full enclosure of protective netting around the goal was visible all over the showground. From the CLA magazine, our advertisement, together with a full page editorial encouraged landowners and farmers to visit our demonstration, which has lead on to over 100 course enquiries. Over the 3 days more than 2000 people played and enjoyed hitting the oval GolfCross ball.

The Belfry - Wooden Spoon Charity, 13th July 2005

Another Wooden Spoon Charity fundraising day was held at another fine course, ‘The Belfry’, and once again perfect conditions for the Longest Drive with the oval ball competition. The uptake from players was almost 100% with even 1 or 2 taking a second go, from playing previously at Wentworth . Everyone loved our activity, so much so that bookings were made for other future events.

Will Green Testimonial Year – Golf Day, 31st May 2005

We attended Woking Golf Club on a gloriously sunny Tuesday, to provide an alternative Longest Drive Competition for Will Green, England and Wasps prop in his Testimonial Year. We were located on the 18 th Tee, with perfect views of the over 100-year old clubhouse. The day was a fantastic success with all 70 players participating in the GolfCross activity that was the ‘talk of the evening’ over dinner. Will personally thanked us for our support on the day; he also followed this up with a wonderfully hand written reference. We wish Will ongoing success in his move to his new club Leinster in Ireland, where we are sure he will be seen in the future, playing at the Leinster Hills GolfCross course.

Wentworth Golf Club - Wooden Spoon Charity, 4th May 2005

Yes Wentworth !! One of the great courses of the world has not seen anything like GolfCross and the oval shaped golf ball on their course. But traditionalism went out the window by every player as they were enthused to hit the ball that ‘cannot be hooked or sliced’. And even though it was a very wet, cold and windy morning the uptake by the players was 100%. It was a great success for the charity, Wooden Spoon whose event this had been arranged for. We even managed to get Lawrence Dallaglio to dig £5 out of his pocket before hitting the oval ball past the longest drive marker, but sorry the ball landed 2 feet into the semi rough, and so could not be ‘allowed’ (oh well Lawrence, ‘better luck next time!’).
