Solway Links GolfCross, course opened 1st November 2005

A breathtaking course where GolfCross meets ‘Preston Cross’!

What a dramatic weather formed course with its wind curved trees and stunning backdrop of the Criffel hills to the North, over the Solway Firth to the Lake District in the South and the Isle Of Man to the West. With the combination of an 18-hole golf course and GolfCross at Solway Links, this course can cater for a multitude of activities from the promotion of the game to youngsters through to the most demanding challenges of a corporate function.

A tremendous course accompanied sometimes by the magnificent raw Scottish weather conditions of the area, make this a must visit GolfCross experience.

Legend be known that this is the place where GolfCross was actually first experienced, when some 400 years ago when a round golf ball was accidentally ‘driven’ at the cross and bounced some 100 yards across the course and landed in a ‘haaf’ salmon fishing net stored in the workers compound. Upon retrieving the ball, it was found to have been misshapen into an oval shape and one of the workers shouted “excellent goal in one!!” It was known that some years later this golfer emigrated to New Zealand, could this be the ancestor of the great inventor of the game, Burton Silver and the extraordinary reason why he called it GolfCross?!
